Now, on to today’s topic!

Winter is very much upon us northern-hemisphere folks, and several of you have asked how the cold temperatures will affect your pheromones. There are only a few things to remember when wearing pheromones in chilly winter temperatures–don’t worry, nothing too complicated! Let’s take a look…

 

1. Proper Pheromone Storage

In general, pheromones should be stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Ideally, they should be stored standing upright, not on their side, and their caps should always be tightly closed. Upright in a closed cupboard at room temperature is the perfect place to store them.

All of the above helps prevent leakage, evaporation (particularly in water-based or alcohol-based formulas), and light damage. When stored properly in this way, pheromones can last for years. You’ll probably run out long before you see any problems with them!

But what about cold winter temperatures? Will the pheromones spoil or freeze during shipment, or when they’re left in your mailbox on a very cold day?

The answer: no, pheromones won’t spoil if they get cold, but you might run into other problems depending on the carrier liquid.

Oil-based pheromones solidify at cold temperatures. If it’s very cold outside, you might retrieve your order from your mailbox and open the package to find a bottle of viscous goo rather than a liquid cologne or perfume. If this happens, don’t panic! It’s a very easy fix: just put the bottle in a small glass of lukewarm water (not hot, unless you want a broken bottle). The pheromones will slowly return to their liquid state, and they’ll be ready to wear.

Alcohol-based formulas don’t freeze in cold weather, except in extremely cold places, because the freezing point of alcohol is so much lower than the freezing point of water. Unless you live in the Arctic or Antarctic, you probably need to be more concerned about the bottle cracking than you do about the formula freezing or the pheromones being damaged.

The other mild problem you might run into if the temperature drops below freezing: some of the components in the formula might crystallize, leading to cloudy bottles. The pheromones are still safe to use, but they won’t look the same as they did before.

So don’t be too concerned when ordering pheromones in cold temperatures. They should arrive just fine and without any problems. And if you do run into any problems, you can always call us up for help!

 

2. Pay Attention To Cover Scents

Just as pheromones themselves are not chemically affected by cold temperatures, the colognes and perfumes in scented pheromones do just fine when the temperatures drop. Perfumes and colognes also have the same storage recommendations as pheromones: a cool, dark, dry place, with their caps tightly sealed to prevent evaporation loss.

Now, some people prefer to store their perfumes and colognes in the refrigerator, because they feel it helps the scents last longer. If you want to store your pheromone perfumes and colognes in the fridge, that’s fine–though we don’t recommend it for oil-based products, because of the aforementioned problems with solidifying. But alcohol-based products will do just fine in the fridge, and if it gives you peace of mind on the fragrances, there’s no reason not to.

The main thing you need to consider regarding fragrances and winter temperatures: scents become muted in cold weather.

Between our skin being cooler and therefore not diffusing scents as well, and our noses naturally being less sensitive to scents when the temperatures drop, fragrances that smell strong in summer and spring can suddenly seem weaker in fall and winter. The cold weather isn’t chemically damaging the scents; it’s just making it harder for us to diffuse them, and harder for other people to detect them.

The solution: wear stronger fragrances in the winter. If it’s overwhelming in the summer, it’s probably a good choice for winter! A lot of perfume pros recommend spicy and warm scents for winter, like cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla.

 

3. Stronger Is Okay

Just as we recommend stronger fragrances in winter weather, most people have better luck with stronger pheromones when the temperatures drop. You’re not sweating as much, your skin is cooler and is diffusing less, and you’re probably wrapped up in multiple layers without much skin exposed. This calls for a more potent formula than you would wear to, say, a summer beach party.
