Now, on to today’s topic, and the next installment in our Back to Basics series! This week, we’re going to take a look at different pheromone carriers, and answer common questions about them!

WHAT ARE PHEROMONE CARRIERS?

To start with, let’s clarify: what exactly do we mean by “pheromone carrier?” If you’re familiar with aromatherapy or DIY perfumery, you might already know the answer. If not, that’s okay–let’s clarify it right now!

A “carrier,” as the name implies, is a liquid that “carries” particles, such as scent particles. In aromatherapy, carriers are non-essential-oil liquids that you combine with essential oils to create an aromatherapy blend. Likewise, in DIY perfumery, carriers are the liquids that you combine with fragrance ingredients to create perfume or cologne.

In the case of pheromones, carriers are the substances, usually liquids, that the raw pheromone crystals are dissolved into. (You may remember from a previous post that synthetic pheromones, in their raw state, are crystals or powders.) This makes it possible for you to apply pheromones to your skin, and lets you combine them with cover scents. It’s much easier, and far more effective, to spray on dissolved pheromones than rub tiny amounts of power into your pulse points!

But do all carriers work the same way? And are they all just as effective as the others? Let’s take a look!

 

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PHEROMONE CARRIERS?

There are three main types of pheromone carriers: alcohol, oil, and gel. Let’s break down these options now!

Alcohol is the go-to carrier for pheromone sprays, such as Liquid Trust. The thin consistency of alcohol is ideal for spray bottles, so application is easy, even on the go. It also dissolves pheromone crystals quickly and efficiently. One downside, however, is that alcohol is susceptible to evaporation loss. If improperly stored, the alcohol can evaporate out, leaving the pheromone crystals behind. This changes the concentration of the product and reduces its quality.

Oil is the preferred carrier for pheromones in roll-on or euro dropper bottles, such as Edge Pheromone Cologne with Sandalwood or Alpha-7 Unscented. Its thicker consistency means that it won’t come out of roll-on or dropper bottles too quickly. Because oil does not dissolve pheromones as quickly as alcohol, oil-based pheromones take longer to manufacture–but the end result is just as stable as an alcohol-based pheromone. It also has no problems with evaporation loss, but it can solidify in cold temperatures–so store at room temp at all times!

Gel is a much less common pheromone carrier. It typically shows up in packets, such as our Alter Ego for Men gel packs. It works just as well as liquid alcohol or oil as a carrier, and allows you to apply the pheromones to the exact spot you want. Just squeeze the gel onto your fingers and apply it right where you want it. The main downside of gel is that it tends to dry up during long storage periods, and its packaging is easy to break. These downsides are why gel is the least common carrier out of the three we discuss here.

So, those are the most common pheromone carriers. But which is the best? Let’s take a look!

 

WHICH PHEROMONE CARRIER IS THE BEST?

When we go over the different pheromone carriers with potential customers, they typically want to know which is the best. As we said above, each option has its pros and cons: alcohol is sprayable and easy to apply but is at risk of evaporation loss, oil is stable but goes solid when the temperatures drop, and so on. But is one, overall, better than the other?

The answer: all of them work equally well as pheromone carriers, but one might have clear advantages for you, personally. For example, if you like the convenience of a spray-able product, you’ll want to look at pheromones with alcohol-based carriers. If you tend to sweat a lot, an oil-based product might work better, since oil is harder to sweat off than thin alcohol. You might also simply prefer how one feels on your skin. Go with what works best for you!

Keep in mind, too, that some products combine multiple carriers. Chikara Pheromone Cologne for Men, the Love Scent Pheromone Oils, and our Pure Pheromones all use a blend of alcohol and oil. By combining carriers, you get the best of both worlds: a thin and workable consistency, and partial protection from evaporation loss. If you’re not sure which carrier is best for you, a blended carrier might be your best option.

As you can see, the answer to “which pheromone carrier is the best” is pretty straightforward: it depends on you! Choose what works for you and your preferences. Either way, the carrier will do a great job of getting the pheromones where you need them to go!
